Certificate in Islamic Studies (CIS) consists of five main areas that are crucial for Muslims to understand. It prepares learners to apply Islamic teachings in everyday way of life. CIS offers five programmes which are Al-Quran and Tafsir, Islamic Inheritance Management, Muamalat (Financial Management According to Islam), Syariah (Islamic Law) and Usuluddin (Fundamental Believe of Islam). Each programme comes with three different modules that explain in details the importance of each area.
1. Al-QURAN AND TAFSIR
Tajwid of the Quran is the knowledge and application of the correct rules of recitation so that the reading of Quran is as closed as possible to the recitation of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Upon completing the module, learners should be able to define the importance of tajwid and its application, describe the rules and the application of the point of articulation, pronunciation and qualities of letters along with other tajwid rules, and identify tajwid in reciting the Quran.
This module introduces the basics of law and verses recitation commonly found in the Quran like Al-Fatihah, Al-Mulk, Al-Sajadah and others. This is very important for one to read chapters prevalent in the Quran fluently and correctly. More importantly, learners can apply what they have learned in their prayer.
Tilawah and Tafsir introduces the chapters that exist in the Quran. In addition, this module also offers learners stories and lessons contained in the verses that will be discussed briefly by the lecturer.
2. ISLAMIC INHERITANCE MANAGEMENT
Islamic Inheritance Law is considered to be one of the most important subjects within Shariah Law as well as the most difficult by scholars. Knowledge of the Law of Inheritance falls into the category of Fard Al-Kifayah. So, this module is one of the pre-requisites that must be learned in order to understand the Islamic Inheritance Law as a whole.
This module deals with critical concepts of inheritance management according to the Islamic Law. It covers the concept of Wasiat, Hibah and Wakaf.
This module introduces learners to the advanced sciences of Islamic inheritance distribution and management from the Islamic view. In addition, learners will be exposed to the application of Islamic inheritance distribution and management in current practices.
This module deals with basic concepts of transaction according to the Islamic Law. It covers the concept of Muamalat, prohibited transaction in Islam and principle of ownership according to Islamic teaching.
Islamic Transaction Law is considered to be one of the most important subject within Shariah Law as well as the most difficult by the scholars. Knowledge of the Law of Muamalat falls into the category of Fard Al-Kifayah. So, the knowledge of Contracts in Muamalat is one of the pre-requisites that must be learned in order to understand the Islamic Transaction Law as a whole.
This module covers the concept of muamalat contracts and its application in the framework of saving, investment, financing and protection. It also makes comparisons between Islamic and conventional products in modern transaction.
This module is desirable to learn, especially for learners who want to master the Shariah. Arabic, which is the language of the Quran and Sunnah is the language of instruction. This module provides the right foundation for producing perspective mujtahid. It describes the methodology of law making and how to read and understand Sya’rie texts.
This module covers general rules which can be applied in various cases that come under common rulings. This module is considered very important and relevant to be studied because it helps learners learn the rules used by the jurist in issuing the law on issues.
This module is relevant to learn as it gives deep understanding to learners on the purpose or the objective of an Islamic Law. It is very important to give answers to any matter relating to the articles of prayers and Shariah. Therefore, it can improve understanding about Islam and strengthen one’s faith.
This module is considered to be one of the most essential subjects within Usuluddin as well as the most difficult by the scholars. Knowledge of Islamic Theology (Usuluddin) falls into the category of fard ain. So, the Islamic Creed is one of the pre-requisites that must be learned in order to understand the Usuluddin as a whole.
The purpose of this module is to provide a contemporary understanding of Islamic Theology particularly in the context of fundamental beliefs of Islam, the pillars of Islam beliefs and the theological doctrine of Islam.
Hadith is the next important source of Islamic Law after the Quran. It is widely observed that many Muslims (as well as non-Muslims) are unaware of how the hadiths are studied and classified into various categories. In this module, the studies of hadith that lead to their classification into various grades of authenticity will be discussed briefly. Thus, the hadith studies is considered to be one of the most essential subjects within Usuluddin as well as the most difficult by the scholars. Knowledge of hadith studies should be learned and understood in every Muslim’s life. So the hadith studies is one of the pre-requisites that must be learned in order to understand the Usuluddin as a whole.
